Main Theme (preliminary): The role of electrochemistry in sustainable energy and the environment

Description of the Topic:
Electrochemistry has great potential to contribute to the generation of clean and renewable energy as well as to the environment in processes such as: the production of green hydrogen, green gasoline, batteries, fuel cells, photovoltaic systems, pollution detection and remediation, reduction of CO2 to fuels or syngas and ammonia production by nitrogen reduction.

The meeting topic will be divided as follows:

1. Clean, renewable and new energy systems: development of catalysts to hydrogen production, photovoltaic devices using friendly and abundant materials, photoelectrochemical cells to H2 and ammonium production, fuel cells and electrical energy storage devices.

2. Environmental electrochemistry – Development of catalysts for pollution detection and remediation of soil, atmosphere and water with emphasis on real samples, Electrochemical and photoelectrochemical capture and reduction of CO2 for production of fuels or in syngas.

3. The coupling of degradation and power generation by photocatalytic fuel cells (PFC) – This system present double environmental benefit: waste material can be consumed and solar radiation can be converted into useful forms of energy, such as electricity, hydrogen or fuel.

Division 5: ELECTROCHEMICAL PROCESS ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
Division 3: ELECTROCHEMICAL ENERGY CONVERSION AND STORAGE

The Fee-Waiver Program is intended to facilitate participation at Annual or Topical Meetings by scientifically and/or technically qualified scientists and engineers with financial hardships that may limit their ability to attend. Generally fee-waivers will be awarded to persons from financially disadvantaged countries.

The fee-waiver program will be governed by the following rules:

1. A maximum of 10 waivers of registration fees for the Annual Meeting and 5 waivers for the Topical Meeting may be granted.

2. Selection of recipients is limited to ISE members in good standing. The criteria for selection include scientific merit (based on the submitted abstract and application) and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be accorded to persons from countries recognized by the ISE to be financially disadvantaged.

3. The fee-waiver program will be advertised on the web site of each meeting.

4. An application for fee waiver must be sent to the ISE office no later than 1 month before the deadline for advance (early registration, reduced fee) registration.

5. Waiver applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

6. The waivers are decided by the whole Executive Committee, taking into account the criteria described in point 2 and any other relevant considerations. The decision will be communicated by email to all applicants (successful and unsuccessful) by the ISE Office at least two weeks before the deadline for advance registration.

7. In order to receive the waiver, the successful applicant must pre-register for the conference and pay the registration fee by the early registration date to ensure that an oral or poster presentation is not deleted from the program. The recipient of the waiver will receive reimbursement for the paid registration fee at the conference registration desk. If the recipient is unable to pre-register, which also means forfeiting an oral presentation, the waiver will be provided only when the recipient registers onsite at the conference.

8. The waivers are valid only for the successful applicant and may not be transferred to another participant.

9. No member may obtain waivers for both the Topical Meeting and the Annual Meeting in the same year.

10. Only applications prepared using the Application Form will be considered (Right button click, “Save target as…”).

The Potiguar capital boasts the title of City of the Sun due to its high solar luminosity, the highest among Brazilian capitals, which exceeds 2,900 hours per year. The annual rainfall is approximately 1,700 millimeters (mm), concentrated between the months of March and July.

Tourist Attractions

Natal is seen as the gateway to tourism in Rio Grande do Norte, annually receiving a flow of more than two million tourists, both national and international. Among the main sights are: Praia de Ponta Negra, the busiest in the city, which is home to the postcard of Natal and one of the main ones in the state, Morro do Careca; the Fortaleza dos Reis Magos, landmark of the emergence of the city, at the mouth of the river Potengi; the Tourism Center, a former public jail;[303] the Parque das Dunas, an environmental preservation area of the state[305] and the Via Costeira (RN-301), officially Avenida Senador Dinarte Mariz, a road between the Atlantic Ocean and the Parque das Dunas, which connects the beaches of Ponta Negra and Areia Preta, housing the Natal Convention Center and the main five-star hotels in the city. In the Historic Center, cultural heritage listed by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN), Rua Chile, monuments and historic buildings are located

Transportation

Natal is served by Governador Aluízio Alves International Airport, in São Gonçalo do Amarante, managed by Inframérica Aeroportos, becoming the first airport in Brazil to be transferred to the private sector, and opened on May 31, 2014. The main flight connections to arrive in Natal are:
1) From any European country to Lisboan (Portugal) and after that, from Lisboan to Natal (Brazil) by direct flight (approx. 6 in half hours)
2) From any Asiatic or African countries to Qatar (State of Qatar) or Frankfurt (Germany), after that, from any of both international airports to Sao Paolo (Brazil) and subsequently, Natal.
3) From USA, Mexico or Canada to Sao Paolo, and after that, Natal.
In terms of road transport, the city of Natal is crossed by three federal highways, namely the BR-101, which crosses the entire eastern Brazilian coast, from Touros to the extreme south of the country; the BR-226, which begins in Natal and extends to the state of Tocantins, crossing the state of Rio Grande do Norte from east to west; the BR-304, responsible for connecting the capitals Natal and Fortaleza, passing through Mossoró and the BR-406, responsible for the interconnection between Natal and Macau, on the north coast.
